Criw Cymraeg
Criw Cymraeg 25-26!

Mission Statement:
Our purpose is to promote the Welsh Language and to inform staff, governors, pupils and parents on our progress in working towards achieving our Gold Siarter Iaith.
Our Aims:
· Set up opportunities for other classes to link up, via Teams, to develop the Welsh language.
· To support Welsh language development for the whole school
· To build on our progress from the Silver award (Awarded Summer 2023)
· To complete a few targets each year – aiming for our gold award.
Our Actions:
- Making posters on PowerPoint to encourage people to speak more Welsh.
- Walked around the village to say Shwmae to everyone.
- Going outside to play Cymraeg games with a parachute to help use more Welsh.
- We watched a video and read a book about the history of quilts in Wales. We also talked about making our own paper quilts and started drawing our quilts.
- We made cards for Santes Dwynwen. We have also been splitting the classes in half for 20 minutes to play Welsh games, then we will switch so that everyone can get to do everything.
- We recorded a message for the Wave, and it will be on the radio on Saint David’s day. We have also joined with the Welsh Healthy Heroes to play games in Welsh.
- Year 6 supported Mrs Evans (Welsh Coordinator) to organise welsh week and St David’s Day Eisteddfod.
Minutes:
Meeting 1: 25/9/25
Today in our Criw Cymraeg meeting, we talked about choosing a new chairperson and vice chair for this year. Everyone agreed it was important to pick people who are confident and can help lead the group. We started by reminding ourselves what the chair and vice chair do, like running meetings and making sure everyone has a chance to speak.
We also said that whoever gets the roles will need to work hard to make sure Criw Cymraeg keeps doing fun activities and helps the whole school use more Welsh every day. The Year 6 then presented, and we chose who we wanted for representative roles.
Meeting 2: 9/10/25
In our meeting today, we talked about making our own personal lanyards for Criw Cymraeg. We thought it would be a great idea because it will help everyone in school know who we are and that we are here to promote Welsh. We want the lanyards to look bright and colourful so they stand out.
We shared lots of ideas about what should go on the lanyards. Some people suggested having our names and the Criw Cymraeg logo. Others said we could add a Welsh phrase like “Siarad Cymraeg!” or “Cymraeg yn Cool!” to make them fun and encourage people to speak Welsh. We are all excited because it will make Criw Cymraeg look official and help us remind everyone to use more Welsh every day.
Meeting 3: 23/10/25
In our meeting, we talked about how we have all been making posters to promote Welsh around the school. Everyone worked really hard to make them colourful and eye-catching so that pupils will notice them and start using more Welsh words every day. We made sure to include phrases like “Siarad Cymraeg!” and “Cymraeg yn Cool!” to encourage everyone.
We also discussed how we have been creating things for our outdoor areas to help support Welsh. At the end, we agreed that these posters and outdoor signs will make a big difference in promoting the Welsh language in our school. We are proud of what we have done so far and can’t wait to see pupils using more Welsh every day. Next time, we will check if the posters and signs are helping and think of more ideas to keep improving.
